Contrary to what is commonly thought, the corded poodle is not so rare as to be considered on the verge of extinction, the reason why it is not easy to see specimens with this type of coat is due to a slow but constant change in the how breeders, judges and most people view the poodle. In the presence of puppies, potentially with wire hair, the owner, very often not even aware of it, manages the dog´s coat as if he were dealing with a common poodle, not allowing the dog´s coat to complete the natural evolution that leads to the formation of the ropes. Regular brushing gives the corded poodle´s coat an appearance very similar to that of the common poodle, apart from, in some cases, a greater density and a strong tendency to curl. In some cases, a corded puppy can be distinguished from its peers already around 4/5 months, when you will begin to notice that the fur begins to form small curls in a very closed spiral: as time passes, these curls will close more and more finely. to form real ropes. Let it be clear that not all poodles can rope, but some could do so without any problem if the owner wanted it. One of my dogs obtained the useful qualifications for the championship, groomed and prepared like a common poodle, after which, perhaps because I was a little tired of arguing with his indomitable curly fur, I let him rope naturally, within a year the ropes arrived to a length of thirty centimeters and they would have lengthened further if I had not continued to shorten them, to give the dog a tidy appearance. Unfortunately, poodles with this type of fur tend to collect more dirt than those with curly fur. On rainy days, if the dog gets wet, it will take hours before it is completely dry, and this is to the detriment of its health. Unfortunately, however, the majority of judges do not appreciate corded poodles and therefore dogs with this type of texture are almost always losers when compared to normal poodles, for this reason, in addition to the difficulty of daily management, dogs with this type of mantle are not very common. :The Poodle´s coat is usually very woolly, resistant to hand pressure, with a natural tendency to curl. Corded poodles are characterized by a very closed type of curl, which if left natural, tends to form narrow tubular cords. The ropes, so that the subject can be exposed, must reach a minimum length of twenty centimeters.
